Marijuana (cannabis): Good or bad?

Many people think that cannabis is a good way to treat a wide range of illnesses, but scientists don't know much about how it works. In recent years, the push to legalize cannabis has made this tension worse in some ways.

A recent study in the journal Addiction also found that the number of people who use the healthiest way to smoke weed is rising sharply across the United States. However, this rise may not be related to the fact that cannabis is now legal in some states. Still, this rise in use is causing big worries about the health of the public.

In this article, we look at the scientific evidence to try to answer the simple question, "Is cannabis good or bad?"

What are the medical benefits of cannabis?

Over the years, research has found evidence that cannabis may be helpful in treating some conditions. Here is a list of these.

Chronic pain

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine did a big review of more than 10,000 scientific studies on the good and bad effects of cannabis on health last year.

Problems with drinking and taking drugs

Another review of all the evidence, which came out last year in the journal Clinical Psychology Review, found that people who are addicted to alcohol or opioids may be able to beat their addictions with the help of cannabis.

Epilepsy

In June 2018, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of a drug that contains cannabidiol (CBD) to treat two rare, severe, and specific types of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome that are hard to control with other types of medication. Epidiolex is the name of this drug made from CBD.

So, is cannabis good or bad for your health?

There is evidence that demonstrates both the harms and health benefits of cannabis. Yet despite the emergence over the past couple of years of very comprehensive, up-to-date reviews of the scientific studies evaluating the benefits and harms of the drug, it’s clear that more research is needed to fully determine the public health implications of rising cannabis use. Moreover, before adding cannabis to your routine, you need to consult an expert for better guidance. Check out more details about cannabis accessories here.
